The analysis of failures with hulls of Volgoneft vessels of 550, 550A, 558, 1577 projects occurred since 1991 till 2012 is executed. 169 emergency cases of vessels were analyzed. Basic dangers, resulting both in failures and casualties, are exposed. Steady growth of break-down is observed for vessels older than 20 years with peak of accidents at 30 aged vessels. Presence of height of double bottom which is not meeting MARPOL requirements, excessive lengths of cargo tanks and absence of slop tanks are the main ecological problems of Volgoneft vessels. In fact, these vessels should not be ope-rated at sea on heavy oil and oil products transportations (i.e. cargoes with density of 0,900 t/cub. m. and more) since 2008. It is shown that only three vessels of 1577/550A projects were completely reequipped in accordance with international requirements of ecological safety. Some variants of decision of problem which can "smooth" transient period are offered. But in long-term plan secu-ring of steady safe transportations of oil and oil products on mixed river-sea navigation tankers is possible only at the cost of new shipbuilding.
